Introduction

A website hosting account provides the facilities needed for a website. The prices above include a domain name, some storage space for your site, email accounts, and a traffic allowance. You will need to design the website, copy it to one of our servers, promote it and keep it up to date.

Light Hosting Account

This is our most popular account for users that don't need dynamic content. Low cost and without the advanced hosting features, this account is suitable for personal sites that have few visitors. If you haven't created a website before then start with this and upgrade if and when you need to.

The hosting fees are for two years and the price includes a UK or US domain name, 5 mailboxes with spam filtering, 250mb of disc space and 1 Gigabyte of data transfer per month. The advanced features such as CGI and databases are not included with this account but can be added by upgrading to a standard account. This account has enough bandwidth for a website with 100 to 500 visitors each day, depending on the number of pages and their content.

Standard Hosting Account

This is our most popular account with advanced features and much more bandwidth, this account is suitable for busier sites, sites with many pages, or sites with lots of images or flash animation. The advanced features allow for personalisation, databases and interactivity.

The hosting fees are for two years and include domain name fees, CGI, SSI, PHP4, MySQL database, 10 mailboxes and a maximum of 5 Gigabytes of data transfer per month. Other facilities may be available on request. Depending on content, this account has enough bandwidth for as many as 1000 visitors per day.

This account is suitable for hosting CMS packages like Wordpress, Joomla, ModX etc. Wordpress is very popular with our customers at the moment so we offer free installation of Wordpress with this account. If you want to edit your own website and you don't want to learn html or use expensive software you might want to try it out.

Heavy Hosting Account

Similar to Standard Hosting, but for larger / busier sites. The allowances are increased to 15 mailboxes and a maximum of 10 Gigabytes of data transfer per month. Depending on content, this account has enough bandwidth for about 500 to 2000 visitors per day.

Extras

Upgrades

When upgrading from light to standard, you will be able to pay an upgrade fee instead of the full standard price. If you need more bandwidth or other facilities, beyond standard hosting you can upgrade to business hosting or a dedicated server as and when needed. There is no need to pay the full price each time you upgrade because what you have already paid will be taken into account when we calculate the upgrade cost. There is no need to waste your money on a dedicated server when a standard hosting account is enough.

Transfers

Your current hosting company might charge you a fee to transfer your domain name to us. You will have to consider that before moving your domains. (Sometimes it cheaper to change the nameservers instead.) In the unlikely event that you wish to 'move away' from us, we will not charge you for a release of your domain name, and we might even be able to give you a refund on some of the money you have paid us.

Skilled webmasters might want to manage thier own domain names with a third party and then point them to our nameservers. We don't mind that, and we will reduce your hosting fees as listed above ('Without Domain Name').

When trasfering a domain name into Keen Computers, you should be aware that we offer a pre-hosting facility. You can upload your website, configure email accounts, DNS, etc BEFORE the site is closed down at the previous ISP. This can help you minimise the down-time of your website and associated services as they are transferred. Most sites and services are transferred with zero down-time, but some ISPs delete everything the moment a transfer is initiated. If you have pre-configured everything with our pre-hosting facility, your site can be operational within minutes of us gaining control of the domain name. We also provide a post-hosting facility for outgoing customers and customers upgrading to dedicated servers.
