Business Hosting Accounts

Our business hosting account gives you all the facilities you need to start hosting a successful business website. Databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL are included for storing user data and to help with content management. Interactive and dynamic features are possible because of SSI, PHP4, PERL, CGI and other similar facilities. Spam Assassin, Sendmail and RBLs are used together to reduce and mark spam. Webalizer monitors your site's traffic and apache 2 delivers the web pages at high speed to your users.

Business hosting starts with 25 Gigabytes of bandwidth per month - enough for 20 000 or more visitors per day. The accounts can be upgraded as and when needed with additional storage, mailboxes or bandwidth. Extra bandwidth, is also available at a low cost for special events or promotions so that you are not tied into expensive long term contracts.

Business sites are often promoted heavily and as a result will receive huge increases of visitors during the brief period of a successful promotion - but with our server arrays and multiple upstream connections we have plenty of spare capacity ready for when you need it.

Upgrading Your Account

Business hosting accounts are suitable for sites with low CPU requirements and 10 000 to 100 000 visitors per day. But, there is no need for your company to start with the most expensive option. As your needs grow we can upgrade your account and add additional facilities or resources at sensible prices. By upgrading as and when needed, your costs can be minimised.

Sites with more than 100 000 visitors per day, or require large amounts of CPU time, need hundreds of gigabytes of storage, or gigabits of bandwidth usually require a dedicated server (or several of them.) We have a variety of servers readily available for use or we can build a custom server balancing your needs, desires, and space for growth against your budget.

Facilities

The data centres in London are of a very high quality, The one we use has four sources of power, multiple upstream network providers, air conditioning, 24-7 security teams, onsite engineers, security cameras, security alarms, fire detection, fire suppression, access control and a building management system.

Physical security at the data centre is of a VERY high standard. There are three zones between the street and the data floors and every change of zone requires another authentication. Entry into the second zone is only granted after the security desk (staffed 24-7) has visually checked your id against a stored photo. Caged areas are locked as are the racks on the data floor are also locked to prevent access. Cameras record the movements of people within the building and each change of zone is logged in the electronically and with cameras there are regular security patrols.

There are two sources of power from the National Grid (Thames North and Thames South) and two for onsite backup (battery and generators). The fuel tanks for the generators can store 24 hours of fuel and there are contracts in place to maintain a regular supply when and if it is needed. A single rack can draw up to 32 Amps of power - more than enough for most users.

Trained and qualified engineers are onsite 24-7 ready to deal with any need that might arise. They can reboot, reset, and repair servers with the spares that are stored within the rack.

Servers

All of our servers are connected 24-7 to a KVM switch with both local and remote access by keyboard and mouse. Software for testing and reinstallation is ready for use on read only media in the dvd drive of every server. Using our dual network connections in Colchester and London we are able to diagnose and repair most faults remotely. We also have several spare servers online and powered up ready to replace any server that is faulty or compromised.

Server software is patched and updated regularly - usually several times a week (and sometimes daily.) Strong and unique passwords are created from random codes for all root accounts and network devices to reduce the threat of brute force password attacks. Access to servers, routers and many other devices is via 128bit encryption (or higher) to prevent eavesdropping and password discovery.
